Marcus Garvey was truly a pioneer of the black empowerment movement. Some of his attributes include political activism, publisher, and journalist. In the early 1900's he established the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association). Not only was it renowned it was also historically recognized as one of the greatest movements in its time. Garvey, was also a significant influence on the popularization of the pan-african movement. Essentially, he taught black people that their history didn't start with slavery, and gave them confidence since they portrayed as primitive people. Unfortunately, he was considered a threat by the government and sabotaged in a operation led by J.Edgar Hoover. Though he ended up being defamed and deported his activism had a significant impact. Fortunately, his legacy has remained strong and has proven through the test of time that he still inspires millions of people across the disporia with his legacy.
