Ma Rainey “Godmother of Soul”

Day 2/28- Ma Rainey is known as the “Godmother of Soul” but there is little representation of her in history. Most of us, including myself, found out about her thru her portrayal on “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” on Netflix. While Viola Davis did a great job portraying her, there are only a handful of pictures of her that exist. I painted this portrait to commemorate her legacy this is why it’s our responsibility to share information with each other. So, our accomplishments cannot be usurped and erased from history.
