Tupac Shakur was one of the most influential hip hop artists of his time and to this day. He was considered an artist “of the people” and of the culture. Tupac was multifaceted individual with a colorful background. He is popularly known for his music and infamously known for his discord “beef” with former friend and fellow artist “Biggie Smalls”. However, their was much more to this life that was taken too soon by most standards. For example, he is the son and nephew of 2 former black panther members (Afeni and Assatta Shakur). Socially conscious, he was familar with the ins and outs of the system and aware of the injustices that systematically oppressed the black youth, black people, and especially black men. During his peak he attempted to bring awareness to the hardships suffered within his culture. Utilizing his platform he wrote songs that would acknowledge, inspire, and support his relatable audience. For example, in “Brenda’s got a baby” and “Keep ya head up” the lyrics resonated with most of his audience.
